OUR STORY
We Exist To:
Connect People with God through Worship
Connect People with Others through Small Groups
Connect People with the World through Service
In 2005 God began to create a restlessness in the heart of Larry Grays, our founding pastor, about the future of his evangelism ministry. It was also in 2005 he was asked to consider planting a multicultural church in New York City. He and his wife Kathy spent several months praying and a week walking the streets of New York. One of his mentors had encouraged him to ask God for a burden for the city. He said, “strategy without a burden is just ambition.” He had a good strategy for starting a church in New York but did not have a deep burden.
Later that year Atlantic Station was opened in midtown Atlanta. After several months of praying, taking several groups of trusted advisors and a strong sense of calling from the Lord he felt led to plant a church there with the help of First Baptist Woodstock, GA and several other partners. The difference between the New York plant and the Atlanta plant was a burden. The potential to reach people was nearly the same but the difference was our love for the city of Atlanta.
Larry moved his family to Atlantic Station in August of 2006 and began to recruit a core group of people to help start the church. For the next year they met almost weekly for small group studies and prayer. They looked for ways to serve the community. They recruited over 20 church partners to help reach the city. During that time we also prayed for every home listed in the Atlanta phone book.
Midtown Bridge Church officially launched in August 2007 at Fox Sports Grill in Atlantic Station. In January 2008 we moved into Regal Cinemas in Atlantic Station. We are continuing to grow a church that looks like the city and like the kingdom of God. Our desire is not too simply grow one big church. We believe it will take a church planting movement to transform our city and are currently helping lay a foundation for other church plants.
Midtown Bridge Church is part of The Rebuild Initiative, a network of churches that exists to plant and replant multi-ethnic churches in the city. Rebuild’s efforts focus on developing leaders and planting multiplying churches that make disciples in cities across the US and around the world.
